Influence, Accomplishments and Partnerships

First Things First of Greater Richmond has contributed significantly to families in Richmond by providing national research-based, best-practice education programs.

In 2011, First Things First:

  • Facilitated 26 Boot Camp for New Dads sessions where more than 350 new dads learned skills to support their baby and significant other.
  • Hosted more than 150 individuals at the Children’s Museum to celebrate Father’s Day and honor dads throughout Richmond.
  • Partnered with The First Tee and Richmond Fmaily Magazine to host 40 families at an interactive Father's Day golf outing.
  • Facilitated multi-week healthy dating workshops for local organizations, including John Marshall High School, Martin Luther King Middle School and two local juvenile correctional centers to directly influence the futures of more than 115 teens.
  • Trained more than 100 local ministry leaders in Prepare-Enrich, recognized as the most comprehensive marriage enrichment tool for pre-marital and married couples.
  • Brought Dr. Gary Chapman, best-selling author of The 5 Love Languages, to Richmond for a two-day marriage conference with more than 1,250 participants.
  • In October, launched All Pro Dad, serving more than 40 participants (dads and kids) each month.
  • In November, unveiled When Baby Makes Three, providing 20 new parents with practical relationship skills in two end of the year workshops.
