Celebrate Marriage is an annual event held in Richmond in February around  Valentine's Day . We began this broad-based community wide event in 2004 to celebrate and promote healthy marriages in our communities.

2006 Summary Report and Sponsors: below:

Celebrate Marriage Richmond 2006 was a very successful; broad based community event “to celebrate and promote healthy marriages in our communities!”  Through various media and workshop opportunities, we communicated a very positive image of the importance of healthy marriages for husbands, wives, children, businesses and the general community. We also presented a number of practical educational opportunities to learn healthy relationship skills for singles, couples and professionals.

Building Marriages and Strengthening Families for a Better Community.

Summary of 2006 activities:

·                     February 10th Community Leaders and Clergy Breakfast at Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center with  Dr John Van Epp.   National speaker and developer of  “Love Thinks” relationship skills curriculum and program for singles (also known as How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk or Jerkette).  Attended by 68Community leaders interested in helping singles/couples make better choices in relationships/marriage.

·                     Proclamations and Public Awareness: Both Mayor Wilder  and Governor Kaine issued proclamations of Marriage Week.  Additionally, our media sponsor, COMCAST, ran daily TV “Marriage Matters”   (310) spots plus we ran some radio PSA announcements. COMCAST Local Edition interview of FTF Director and Board member 21 times on CNN Headline News.

·                     Couples Skills workshops (research based) in various locations with 266 participants.

·                     Singles Relationship Skills workshops based on the “Love Thinks” model in several locations with 99 participants including a small group of Ex-offenders in rehabilitation.

·                     Workshop For Mental Health Professionals & Clergy (training trainers) PREPARE/ENRICH Relationship Inventories; certification training for 33 professionals.

·                     Marriage Mentor training with FOCCUS/REFOCCUS relationship inventories and Marriage Savers exercises for 30 mentors who will serve hundreds of couples each year.

·                     Northside Healthy Marriage Initiative: "Love Thinks"  Building Healthy Relationships Billboard and workshops. Over 66,000 traffic count

·                     High School Rap Session for teens @ Richmond ACDC with Dr. Rozario Slack, national speaker on fathering and urban healthy relationships/marriage with 240 participants

·                     Luncheon for Northside barbers/beauticians with Dr Rozario Slack (20)

·                     Lunch & Learn workshops: “Healthy Relationship Skills”  for businesses (40)
